Bloom and Technology

We all know Bloom's Taxonomy and the tree above. It has been taught in our college classes, presented in professional development, and usually part of curriculum writing.  Quick refresher: written in 1956 Cognitive Domains: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation We use these for levels of questioning, activities, assessment, and so on.... BUT....what if we included technology? There are new, revised Bloom's Taxonomy charts (wheels) that are much more detailed and include technology suggestions for each level. Check this out!!! The only problem I see is technology is changing so fast and there are so many new programs out there on a daily basis that this wheel may seem old. But, it is a start. This wheel is web based. Experiential Learning-Let the students do it!

 The Importance of Experiences Many districts are studying the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) Framework by Nancy Frey and Douglas Fisher and incorporating it into their teaching frameworks. It follows an "I do", "We do", "You do together", "You do alone" process to move students to more independent learning practices.  This begins with a focused instruction phase where the teacher writes an "I can.." statement on the board and models the skill using a think aloud. Why tell them what they are learning ahead of time? Why not let them determine the purpose of the lesson AFTER you have taken them through the experience of learning? Or just give them a broad topic of study for the day? LET THEM DO IT!  This is where I will challenge this process.....why not provide more experiential learning opportunities?
